Commercial Multi-Line Underwriter
Location: Maitland, FL (On-Site/Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-Time
What You'll Do
- Analyze and evaluate new business submissions and renewal accounts for commercial insurance risks.
- Underwrite commercial property, general liability, commercial auto, inland marine, umbrella, and other commercial lines within company guidelines.
- Assess exposures, operations, loss history, financial information, and risk characteristics to determine account acceptability.
- Determine appropriate pricing, coverage terms, deductibles, endorsements, and underwriting conditions.
- Manage an assigned agency territory and develop strong relationships with independent insurance agents.
- Respond promptly to agents regarding submissions, renewals, endorsements, and coverage questions.
- Negotiate pricing and coverage while maintaining underwriting profitability and growth objectives.
- Monitor renewal retention and identify opportunities for account rounding and new business development.
- Review inspections, loss control reports, financial statements, and other underwriting documentation.
- Maintain accurate underwriting files and documentation within company systems.
- Collaborate with Claims, Loss Control, Product Management, and Executive Leadership to achieve company goals.
- Stay current on market trends, underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and commercial insurance products.
Qualifications Required
- 3–7+ years of Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting experience.
- Experience underwriting multiple commercial lines of business.
- Strong knowledge of commercial insurance coverages and underwriting principles.
- Ability to independently analyze risk and make sound underwriting decisions.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
- Experience working with independent insurance agencies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and underwriting management systems.
- Florida commercial underwriting experience.
- Experience underwriting small to middle-market commercial accounts.
- CPCU, AU, CIC, ARM, or other insurance designations.
- Experience with ISO forms and rating.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field.
